Designing the sound of THX can be quite complex as the sound is made from more than 40 voices. The sound (aka the “deep note”) is the rumbling sound that transforms from audio chaos into a triumphant one note. You can hear it moments before the feature film begins to play in a movie theater. It was developed by a sound engineer working for the company THX Ltd which was founded by George Lucas in 1983. THX was created to provide a high-quality, predictable playback environment as intended by the mixing engineer.
I will be designing the sound of THX using “Massive” by Native Instruments to demonstrate how to recreate it.
